In JIRP field camps everyone sleeps in bunkhouses. Every building at JIRP is unique; the bunkhouses are all different sizes and configurations, so your bunkhouse-mates will vary between camps.
Bunkhouses are separated by students, staff, and faculty. Student housing is divided into three buildings at most major camps: two single-gender buildings and one gender-neutral building. We will go to great lengths to honor the preferences of students who feel strongly and/or require either housing option. That said, in some circumstances, we may ask students with mild preferences to be flexible in order to balance numbers in buildings.
For up to 2-10 nights during the summer, participants will be sleeping in smaller camps and/or in tents. In small camps there are not usually separate sleeping quarters - all participants sleep in the same bunkroom/sleeping loft. In tent camps, we provide an appropriate number of tents for all participants, and separate out groups for sleeping as well as we can. In this circumstance, it might not be possible to provide all gendered sleeping options, but we will provide a comfortable breakdown of sleeping arrangements for all participants. In all circumstances, overnight groups include at least three people (and are usually 4-8 people).
