JIRP is eager to preserve our 75 years of oral history.
These are the stories of the “old timers” as well as the stories of those who just recently returned from their first summer on the Icefield.
This project is in its infancy. The plan at this point is to pair up interested alumni, provide interview questions, ask them to record their virtual conversation, and to send the recording to us. We hope this will serve several purposes:
to connect JIRPers of different eras to each other and to the program.
to record first hand accounts of unusual and meaningful experiences on the Icefield.
to preserve the history of JIRP in all of its complicated breadth and depth.
JIRP is powered primarily by a large group of volunteers. It is entirely purposeful that this effort to preserve JIRP history will draw on our 2000+ alumni. No one JIRPer knows everything there is to know about the program; we hope that by inviting all participants to speak that we can gain a more complete understand of our roots.
As stories come in, we will post highlights for the public.
