Applications due: February 16, 2025 by midnight AKST
JIRP is hiring a Town Logistics Coordinator (TLC) for the 2025 season, which runs from mid-May to mid-August. In conjunction with the Program Manager, the TLC is responsible for running the town-based portions of the Juneau Icefield Research Program while the undergraduate field course and research teams are in the field.
The Town Logistics Coordinator should demonstrate a flexible working style, an interest in learning, and organizational skills that will allow them to effectively balance the needs of multiple teams within the larger program. The TLC will report to the Program Manager, who will also be based in town for the summer. The TLC will be responsible for managing all-town based logistics for short periods of time while the Program Manager is off-duty or in the field.
Responsibilities:
Work under the supervision of the Program Manager to implement the Summer Logistics Plan laid out by JIRP Leadership.
Delegate tasks to two junior Town Staff and assist with mentoring them as they learn expedition support skills.
Work with Field Operations Managers to schedule flights, stage and prioritize loads, and communicate with personnel regarding flights.
Coordinate short-term personnel movements in Juneau (airport pick-ups/drop-offs, errands, transportation to/from helicopter hangar, etc.) .
Oversee grocery, hardware, mechanic supply, and sundry purchases in Juneau. Stage purchases and research equipment for upcoming flights to the field.
Maintain daily communications with the Field Parties through cell phone, VHF radio, satellite texting/InReach, and/or satellite phone.
Maintain emergency communication with relevant parties as needed (Program Directors, Board liaisons, participants’ family members).
Supervise all town-based logistics, including supervision of Town Staff, when the Program Manager is off-duty or in the field.

Have (or can get) a passport valid through Dec. 31, 2025.
Ability to lift 40 lbs. and work on your feet for 6-8+ hours a day.
A valid driver’s license.

Familiarity with Juneau and/or Southeast Alaska/Lingít Aaní, or interest in the area.
No DUI or DWI within the last ten years (if you do have one, you will need to file a special application to enter Canada).
Schedule & Compensation
The TLC usually works 6-8 hours per day, though the schedule varies depending on the needs of the field teams. Working hours are usually between 7am and 9pm. Every fourth night, the TLC will be “on call” in case of an emergency in the field. In extenuating circumstances, the TLC may be required to work before 7am or after 9pm, though these responsibilities are shared with the Town Staff and Program Manager. It is expected that the TLC will take one day off per week.
Compensation will be $20-23/hr commensurate with experience. JIRP will also provide housing in Juneau and Atlin, travel reimbursement up to $850, and access to shared vehicles for work tasks.
